My teaching experience began in the early 1980s when I was Assistant Director of a preschool here in Arizona.  I was also the teacher of the 2 year olds for 3 1/2 years at a preschool.  After a long hiatus from teaching, in order to pursue a degree and a career in the business world, I was afforded the opportunity to return to university and earn a degree in education.

Since 2001 I have been a special education teacher in Paradise Valley Unified School District.  Most of my first 13 years of teaching was spent in a self-contained classroom of middle school students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.  After taking a bit of time off to earn my Master's Degree in Reading Curriculum, and a Reading Specialist endorsement, I am excited to return to teaching. My new home is right here at Mountain Trail Middle School in an academic self-contained classroom of students with Autism. My teaching style incorporates the use of thematic units and hands-on learning mixed into an individualized student-based curriculum .  I believe that my students need to be CHALLENGED and ENGAGED in order to receive the most from their educational opportunities.
