You have demonstrated the best of creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication that we instill in our interdisciplinary project-based curricula in the DLC. I am so proud of each and every one of our students who participated in the virtual National History Day competition!

Congratulations on all of your hard work and achievements!

I Civics Announcements

Fifteen Sunrise students participated in the ICivics program working together to compete and demonstrate their civic knowledge in the regional competition last month. I am pleased to announce that seven of our DLC students advanced to the 2020-2021 ICIVICS AZ SCHOOLS: Arizona Public School Competition ICivics state civics competition this week.

Nathaniel Boyd, Ryan Hunt, and Liam Whelan took 4th in state, and Sam Frutkin, Max Stephney, and Tyler Surguine won 1st place! Congratulations!

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor founded iCivics, a program of the Arizona Supreme Court and the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education in 2009 to reimagine civic education to cultivate a new generation of students for thoughtful and active citizenship. The purpose of iCivics Arizona is to expand the use of iCivics.org throughout Arizona to encourage the development of informed active citizens as civic knowledge is a prerequisite for civic participation.

I am so proud of each and every one of the students in the DLC for their hard work and dedication in competing in this contest and learning through the iCivics curriculum, thus improving their civic knowledge, civic attitudes, and literacy skills.
