Elementary Instrumental Music

Welcome to my website. This site has been designed to help parents & students to know what is going on in their instrumental music classes. Since I am at multiple schools & I don't teach the same thing at every school, I have created separate pages for each school. Click on the name of your school to be directed to the correct site. On these pages you will find information about the classes, including concert dates.

2017- 2018 schedule & links to separate sites

The schools I am at on Fridays will alternate between my band schools & strings schools.

Below is the calendar showing when students have Band or Strings- this one works for all 4 schools. :) I've added the Fridays & indicated which schools will have class on the 1/2 days.

Band & Strings schedule

As always, the best way to reach me is by email. (kcornell@pvschools.net) If this isn't possible you can call my voicemail & leave me a message. These messages go straight to my email. :)
602-449-LINK (5465). Extension #72047

Students can reach me through pvlearners (kcornell@pvlearners.net). Every student has a pvlearners email account. If your child doesn't know their pvlearners login information they can ask their classroom teacher. I cannot respond to emails from students from email addresses that are not their pvlearners account.

Documents specific to each school are attached to the specific subpages.
Documents I have posted that are not Google Documents are pdf documents, so you will need a PDF document reader program (like Adobe Acrobat) to read the documents.

Whole Brain Teaching
Click on the link above to learn about Whole Brain Teaching- a unique approach to learning that is used by many teachers in the district. Whole Brain Learning gets students more involved in their learning instead of just sitting & listening to a teacher talk & talk & talk..... we have an advantage since playing instruments does require effort from the kids. :)

Make Your Day Classroom Management
Click here to learn about Make Your Day. Hidden Hills & Sonoran Sky use the Make Your Day classroom management program. Make Your Day gives students the task of evaluating their own behavior, thus making them accountable for their actions.

This is a great article from the National Association of Music Education that can help parents best encourage their children when beginning a musical instrument. Learning an instrument isn't easy at first & it requires a lot of work. Just like learning long division. :-) But the longer they stick with it the more they will enjoy it.

Instrument Vendors in Phoenix area
This is a list of music vendors in the Phoenix area to help you find a place to purchase instrument supplies or renting of instruments. If there is a store not on this list please let me know so it can be added.

Not everyone knows what to look for when renting an instrument, so this link provides questions to help you find the best place to rent. Different stores do different deals when it comes to things like monthly cost & cost of repair or maintenance.
