The Role of the School Nurse

The role of the school nurse is to collaborate with the educators to provide

an environment conducive to learning. It is to assess and evaluate the health and development status of the student; be the health care liaison to the student; counsel, educate and find resources to assist in the student's health care.

We serve as consultants for the health curriculum; provide screening programs for diseases of the eyes, ears and teeth; keep immunization records; assist in placement for special education programs; plus act as the giver of first aid in an emergency.

Health Tip:

Frequent handwashing with soap and water is the number one line of defense against infection for both students and staff!

Parents Remember!!!

Students entering the sixth grade will be required to have their Tdap and Meningitis vaccines by the first day of school. In addition, students turning 11 during the fifth grade have 1 week to receive the vaccines per Arizona State Immunization Law.
