This song starts with a background about our area; being prime land for gardening; the fertile soils of Papatuuaanuku worked with the hard sweat and labour of our ancestors for the benefit of future generations; always caring for both the land and nourishment of the body. The Pohutukawa an ancient tree also connected to the land; it’s roots deep and strong. When the red flower of the Pohutukawa blossoms it is a sign of summer and warmth, abundance- the kaimoana is ready and the colour of red symbolises love. Whilst at Puni School it is the time of growth and a time to blossom for our tamaariki. Therefore when the Pohutukawa blossoms so too do our students - they are ready for the world.
