The Placer Social Science Department from L-R: Greg Robinson, Jason Long, Sarah Maddox, Scott Barry, Martha Fancher, Duane Long and Mark Faulkner. 89 year-old Martha Fancher has been visiting our 11th grade U.S. History classes for 26 years. She brings with her an incredible memory of World War II, the sacrifices made and the influence the war had on daily life. On the table in the foreground can be seen the treasure trove of mementos and memorabilia that Martha brings with her, much of it that she has saved since the war, to share with our students.
The Placer Social Science Department offers courses intended to prepare our students for both college and adult life as productive and contributing citizens. Our courses include not only the requisite social science courses necessary for graduation and college admittance, but also electives that are among the most popular courses on campus as well as numerous Advanced Placement offerings. Our courses are taught in an engaging and enthusiastic manner by our dedicated staff that is not only highly trained in their respective areas of expertise, but among the most active in extracurricular offerings available to our students. We offer several A-G electives such as AVID, Psychology, Military History, Environmental Studies and Geography and our staff is involved in such extracurricular activities as Football, Basketball, Snowboarding, Mountain Biking and Political Debate. The Placer Social Science Department also leads school-wide community service projects in both the Fall and Spring semesters. These projects are designed to not only expose our students to the benefits of volunteering in the community, but also to assist the less fortunate in the Auburn area.
