Special Education

RESOURCE SPECIALIST PROGRAM
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Program Description:  This program is designed to identify and meet the needs of students who show a significant discrepancy between ability and achievement, i.e. learning disabled and/or other identified conditions such as physically handicapped, deaf, visual impairment, orthopedic impairment, speech or language impairment and/or other health impairments. Special emphasis is placed on accommodating or modifying students’ programs so that they can function in the least restrictive environment. This is achieved by regular communication between classroom teachers and the Special Education staff.  Students enrolled in the RSP program are working toward a high school diploma.  RSP classes are not college approval for CSU/UC Systems.



CAHSEE PREP CLASS
Graduation Requirement - Math

This class is designed to review the math skills needed to pass California High School Exit Exam.  The time in class will be spent reviewing the areas of focus which include: Number Sense, Statistics, Data Analysis and Probability, Algebra and Functions, Measurement, Geometry, Algebra 1 and Mathematical Reasoning, and Geometry.  Materials developed by the San Diego County Office of Education will be used as well as other supplemental materials.



RSP ENGLISH 10
Grade: 10
Graduation Requirement - English
Prerequisite: English 9

Course Description:   This course is organized and sequenced so that students build the skills and master the content required by the California State Standards.  The standards set forth are in the areas of: writing, reading, listening, and speaking.  One fiction novel is also read during the course.  The curriculum is modified and directed to meet the needs of the specific student population of the class.

INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS PROGRAM (ILS)
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Course Description:  ILS programs are designed to maximize a successful high school experience for students with learning differences. In ILS, the core subjects of Math, English, Reading and Science are taught with an emphasis on independent living skills. All students are encouraged to main-stream into any subject area their individual skill level allows. Juniors and Seniors may qualify for the Community Based Education Program. Students enrolled in this program will learn life and job skills by working in area businesses. 
*School credits are earned for graduation with a certificate of completion.

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS PROGRAM 
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Course Description:  Functional Skills Programs are designed to focus on skills that develop independent living for populations with severe cognitive delays. It is designed to teach these special populations the basics of life survival and give them the skills to be productive members of society. The focus is on independent living, communication, community and prevocational skills. Juniors and seniors in the program may also qualify for workability and Community Based Education Program.
