Special Education

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Program Description:  This program is designed to identify and meet the needs of students who show a significant discrepancy between ability and achievement, i.e. learning disabled and/or other identified conditions such as physically handicapped, deaf, visual impairment, orthopedic impairment, speech or language impairment and/or other health impairments. Special emphasis is placed on accommodating or modifying students’ programs so that they can function in the least restrictive environment. This is achieved by regular communication between classroom teachers and the Special Education staff.  Students enrolled in the RSP program are working toward a high school diploma.  RSP classes are not college approval for CSU/UC Systems.

Prerequisite: Teacher Placement

Course Description: This course is a support class for students with an IEP; there will be direct instruction on how to improve study habits, note-taking, critical reading etc, while also getting small group or 1:1 help with academic classes.

Course Description: ILS programs are designed to maximize a successful high school experience for students with learning differences. In ILS, the core subjects of Math, English, Reading and Science are taught with an emphasis on independent living skills. All students are encouraged to main-stream into any subject area their individual skill level allows. Juniors and Seniors may qualify for the Community Based Education Program. Students enrolled in this program will learn life and job skills by working in area businesses.
*School credits are earned for graduation with a certificate of completion.

Course Description: Functional Skills Programs are designed to focus on skills that develop independent living for populations with severe cognitive delays. It is designed to teach these special populations the basics of life survival and give them the skills to be productive members of society. The focus is on independent living, communication, community and prevocational skills. Juniors and seniors in the program may also qualify for workability and Community Based Education Program.
