Welcome to Leadership and Drama!

Teacher Bio:

Hello,
I am Verla Hutchins, Corwin's  Leadership/Drama teacher. The Leadership/Drama class is a performing arts class at Corwin and I am honored to have the opportunity to develop an appreciation and excitement for the stage like never before. Students will learn how to present, speak, project and leave the insecurities of pre-adolescence and adolescence off the stage. This class is an exciting, active opportunity to explore the world of theater, set building, costume creation, script writing and performing. For the 8th graders, students will write and direct original work using various media enhancements.7th graders will explore the history and traditions of theater and 6th graders will jump into building characters in both scripted and improvised pieces. 4th and 5th grade will explore the fun of teamwork and the stage. Many of our performances are used as fundraisers to support the drama program. Over the past 3 years, we were able to purchase professional performances, develop costumes, create a construction program and most of all purchase new lighting and sound equipment. Thanks to your support, our students are experiencing new opportunities.  The students are my first passion and teaching my second. Through these passions, my goal is to help the students build the desire to be life long learners. I am certain that with some hard work and a little creativity, we are destined to have an amazing year. Please stop by and introduce yourself to me, my door is always open. Please see the "Contact" tab to see the many ways to communicate with me or feel free to drop in and join in a class.
