Tú eres mi otro yo.
You are my other me.
At the beginning of each class, students recite the poem, "In Lak'ech" by Luís Valdez. In my classroom, I seek to build a culture of empathy and solidarity among all students. The development of this classroom culture is imperative in order to obtain high levels of academic achievement.
Though it is not an obvious revelation, our classroom core values of empathy, courage, self-advocacy, and authenticity lend themselves to help students succeed within classroom walls and beyond.
In this class, students go beyond the traditional tasks of reading and writing. Rather, students use traditional Language Arts skills to create and communicate ideas to positively influence others in our school, our community, and our world.
