Hello and welcome to my Science Site; Mrs. Farrer's Science Classroom.

I graduated from UMASS Dartmouth in 1995 with a B.S. in Chemistry and from Boston College in 1998 with a M.S. in Organic Chemistry.  The next 8 years were spent  in the pharmaceutical industry as a researcher.  In 2006, we found ourselves moving to Colorado with many changes ahead of us.  My side job, in Boston,  as a group fitness instructor, led me to pursue a career in fitness. Shortly after arriving in Pueblo, I began my work in the health and fitness industry teaching group fitness and nutrition for the community in local churches.  In 2009, I started my own business, LivingFit, LLC.  Training over 200 clients since 2006 has been an amazing experience.  As my children started school, I too embarked on an additional endeavor; secondary science teacher certification.  I started the TIR program and was hired at Swallows Charter Academy as a middle school science teacher in August 2012.  The fall of 2014 I decided to jump into High School teaching IPES and Chemistry here at Centennial.

This year will be my third year at  Centennial High School but my first year teaching in the Health Academy (Chemistry 1, Chemistry 2, and  Student Government).  I have been working on initiating a Mentorship program with Neel Vahil, called Pueblo Health Mentors.  This program is designed to give students access to health professionals in Pueblo.    I look forward to giving all my students not only the gift of knowledge, but more importantly the gift of becoming an independent explorer and learner.

I am an avid nature lover, fitness enthusiast, photographer and health nut (but chocolate and peanut butter are a must!))  I love spending time with my family hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking and exploring.  I will always look for a book, map or other informative source to learn the science about our current location.  There is always more to learn.

This summer we visited the Mansions in Newport RI, the ocean coasts of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, a mountain lake in the collegiate peaks, climbed pikes peak and the incline, and kayaked, hiked and biked at a reservoir in Eden Utah while visiting the Salt Lake.

Over the past  years, we have visited Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, The Badlands, Rocky Mountain National Park (Estes Park).   We also spent time in Northern Michigan and then locally in Avon,Vail and Estes Park. Other National Parks we have visited include Capital Reef, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Moab and Grand Staircase Escalante.  In years prior we have visited the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Acadia, The White Mountains, The Green Mountains, The Grand Canyon and Glenn Canyon.  I look forward to sharing all that I have learned on these trips.

It is my pleasure to challenge each and everyone of you to achieve excellence. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year.
