GAPP Exchange

The 2018 Centennial GAPP group in Berlin, Germany.

Our next exchange is planned for the summer of 2018 (end of June to end of July). The next visit from German students will be in September of 2018.
Participating students must be enrolled in German, have good behavior, attendance, and academic progress, and participate in preparation meetings.

Information meetings will be held in May of 2019 and September of 2020.

GAPP (German American Partnership Program) is a non-profit high school exchange program, sponsored both by the German and American Governments. It has been in existence since 1972. Its goals are international and intercultural understanding, lifelong friendships between students and families, and improvement of language skills.

Students are matched up with a partner from the other country and stay with that person's family for 3-4 weeks. Students participate in family activities, attend school, and go on educational excursions. In this manner, students experience real life in the other country, and lifelong friendships and further visits often result.

Our GAPP-exchange at Centennial has been in existence since 2008. So far, 64 American and 159 German students have already benefited from the experience. Our next exchange is scheduled for the summer of 2018 (see information above). GAPP is open to students of all needs and ability levels. There is no specific GPA requirement; eligibility decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

Students who cannot go on the trip can still participate by hosting a German student or serving on the Welcome Committee.

GAPP 2016

15 Centennial High School students visited our partner school, the Remstalgymnasium Weinstadt, experienced every day life at school and with their host families, and visited Lake Constance, including Austria and Switzerland! Frau Moosbrugger (German Teacher), Ms. Cano (Spanish Teacher) and Christopher Hurd (2x GAPPie and now volunteer chaperone) came along for the visit.
From August 29 to September 22, 22 German students  returned the visit with their teachers, Herr Sauter (English/Religious Education) and Frau Walz (English/Chemistry). They experienced American school life and especially the Bell Game!
