COVID Information

Your teachers in the summer music program will follow all PSD and Larimer Health guidelines regarding the playing of instruments to keep our students and staff as safe as possible.  The following information is provided on April 20, 2021.  As conditions in the schools and county change, this information may be updated.

1.  The Summer COVID coordinator will be Scott Schlup (sschlup@psdschools.org).  It is imperative that any student who is not feeling well stay home, and any student that receives a positive test IMMEDIATELY contact Mr. Schlup.  He will contact the teacher at the class the child attends and with that teacher determine if any students will need to be identified as "close-contact" and quarantine at home.  If a student is determined to be in close contact and has to be quarantined, parents will receive both a phone call and an email to the contact information provided with registration.

2. String Players (Violin, Viola, Cello and String Bass).  These classes will be held inside the school, and students will be seated at the distance required by the Larimer Health Department (or farther apart if possible).  Every student must wear a mask (family provided) and all seats, music stands and equipment will be disinfected between each class.

3. Wind Players.  These classes will be held outside the school when weather permits.  Students should dress for the weather (including appropriate sun screen and sunglasses on sunny days).  If the weather is questionable, classes may be moved inside, or may be cancelled.  If a class is cancelled, a teacher will send an email the night before no later than 9:00pm informing you of the change.  If you don't receive an email, anticipate the class going on as planned.  Every student should wear a family provided mask to and from the summer classes, and put it on when not actively playing an instrument.  Each site will provide masks that can be used while playing a wind instrument.  These "music" masks are not required when playing outside, but will be available to any student that wants to wear them, or who has a teacher that would want to require them for his/her classes.  These "music" masks are required if the class is meeting inside.  Bell covers with a special fabric layer (MERV-13) have also been shown to help stop the spread of aerosols.  Students are encouraged to purchase a bell cover for their instrument when renting - but they are not required if playing outside (a limited amount of MERV-13 fabric will also be available from every summer band teacher - so you can easily make your own bell cover - the summer staff will show you how).  If classes are moved inside, bell covers are required.  If you choose not to purchase one (especially if you are using a school owned instrument), your summer teacher will help you so you can participate and remain safe. Music chairs, stands and equipment will be disinfected between each class.

4. Percussion Players.  These classes will be held either outside or inside the school, and students will be seated at the distance required by the Larimer Health Department (or farther apart if possible).  Every student must wear a mask (family provided) and all seats, music stands and equipment will be disinfected between each class.
