What is Give Next?

The 2017-2018 school year marks the sixth year of the Give Next program. Give Next is a school-based program that is implemented into an existing classroom curriculum and connects students locally to issues such as hunger, homelessness, and domestic violence. Each Give Next classroom receives $5,000 for grant-making in the areas of education, income, health, arts, and the environment. The money for the classroom grants is donated by local businesses, foundations, and individuals specifically for Give Next.  Donors are matched with a classroom and are invited to visit throughout the year and attend the award ceremony.  As a Give Next teacher, our role is to be a program adviser to help empower students to make decisions, while guiding them through the program.

       How it works:

            1. Students attend Give Next Kickoff Day
            2. Students work with their peers to identify community needs that
are important to them and create mission statements to guide their
                grant-making.
            3. Students research nonprofits, volunteer, and meet local nonprofit
                leaders.
            4. Each classroom receives $5,000 for Give Next grant-making from
                local donors.
            5. Students raise additional money for grant-making through
crowdfunding, art sales, in-school fundraisers, etc.
            6. Students review applications and award grants at a ceremony at the
                end of the school year.
