Music with Ms. Fasano
Welcome to the 2017-2018 music program at P.S.69.
Making music and learning to express ourselves through music are our goals.  In all grades, students learn songs from many cultures and work at developing their singing voices.

Grade 4  "The Orchestra Sings"

Fourth graders will be following the Carnegie Hall Link Up curriculum "The Orchestra Sings". They will receive a book of songs and recorder pieces that they will study and learn throughout the year.  On May 22, 2018, the students will attend a concert at Carnegie Hall where they will sing and play with an orchestra.

4th grade students: check out the Carnegie Hall website links at the bottom of this page.
Grade 5  Time to Improvise

Fifth graders will continue to learn to sing and to play the recorder.  Students play major, minor, and pentatonic scales and transpose pieces from one key to another.
They will study seasonal songs, African-American spirituals, and Chinese folksongs.
An important goal is to sing and play music in two or more parts to create harmony.
Students will create ostinatos to accompany their pieces and they will improvise and compose their own compositions.
Review of music vocabulary, music notation, and score reading is ongoing.

4th Grade and 5th Grade Chorus

Students in grade 4 and 5 can try out for the P.S.69 Chorus.  The choruses meet twice a week during the first period to learn and rehearse songs.  Students perform at the Winter Concert in December and the Spring Concert in May.  These concerts are at 9:00 a.m. during the school day and at 7:00 p.m. in the evening.  All parents are welcome to come to our concerts.  Our choruses also go on field trips to perform at the District Arts Festival and at the Norwegian Home and Health Center, a nursing home in our neighborhood.
