NYC Fitnessgram

Fitnessgram is the annual fitness assessment for students in grades K-12. This assessment supports students in learning about and measuring components of health-related fitness: cardio-respiratory endurance, muscle strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Students in grades K & 3 will just have their height and weight recorded for the NYCFitnessgram. This will then be computed into body mass index (BMI). Students in grades 4-5 will also have their BMI computed (height/weight). In addition, they will participate in 5 other assessments Pacer, Curl-Ups, Push-Ups, Sit and Reach, Trunk-lift.

The Pacer test measures cardio-respiratory endurance.

The Curl-Up tests for abdominal and back strength.

The Push-Ups tests for upper body strength and endurance.

The Sit and Reach test measures the flexibility of the hamstring muscles in the legs and lower back.

The Trunk-lift assesses the strength and flexibility of the back.

We perform the Fitnessgram assessments during the winter months. Once the assessments are complete we input the results into the computer on https://www.nycenet.edu/schoolwellness/wellnessportal/

Results are then mailed to the school in May and are then sent home.
