What Is Your Spirit Animal?

After each meditation, we reflect on our experiences in our Mindful Journal. In one of last weeks reflections, the idea of Spirit Animals was brought up, and the students were generally interested in this topic area.

From this conversation, we decided to learn about First Nations Inspired Art, specifically Tlingit art, which is artwork that reflects Indigenous cultures and histories. The animals used in this art form are symbols of specific Indigenous clans and mythology.

With this background knowledge, the Early Years Students discovered their Spirit Animal using an online quiz, as well as a Spirit Animal Meditation, and then created their own Tlingit Art that reflect each individual students personality and character at this point in their life. With saying that, Spirit Animals will and do change, and it is possible to have more than one Spirit Animal at a time.

This was an amazing, and powerful experience for us all!
