SIX FLAG PRINTS
Between 1960 and 1980, Jasper Johns created 13 prints that depict the image of the American flag. Hiram Butler Gallery is pleased to mount six of the thirteen flag prints in Jasper Johns Six Flag Prints. Among the works on view are lithographs and silkscreen prints from Johns' primary print publishers: ULAE, Gemini G.E.L., and Simca Print Artists Inc.

In this series, Richie's prints derive from concepts in Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' series. Beautifully composed shapes of shifting values exist on a plane together, standing as ethereal symbols while remaining ambiguous. Relationships between forms maintain a loose sense of wonder as these shapes both merge together and break away from each other.

Slick by Sabra Booth 
In conjunction with the IPCNY: New Prints/ Winter 2013, San Antonio artist, Sabra Booth, will debut a new installation of prints and a stop motion animation in a vintage RV, parked in the ALH parking lot throughout the opening reception. The installation will also be on view from 12-5 PM Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, July 1. Through satire, the project examines the possible effects of the BP oil spill on the Gulf Coast.

This exhibition explores the technically innovative etchings of Jacques Callot, one of the most accomplished printmakers of the 17th century. Primarily drawn from the private collection of Albert A. Feldmann, these stunning prints are supplemented by examples from the museum’s own collection and a small number of other institutions.

James Turrell: The Light Inside
James Turrell: The Light Inside explores the remarkable career of James Turrell (born 1943). This exhibition features seven immersive light environments, ranging from Turrell’s first projections of the late 1960s to his most recent Tall Glass series of 2010–13, as well as three print portfolios and site plans relating to Roden Crater. All are from the collection of the MFAH, and most are being created for the first time for this exhibition.

ETCHING SPECIAL EFFECTS
Using copper, ferric chloride, and various grounds, participants will create special textures on plates. Two kinds of marbling, crackle, and spit-bite are included, as well as unusual soft ground effects.
Instructor: Margaret Craig is Chair of Printmaking at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio. She received a MA in Painting from UW Madison and her MFA in Printmaking at UT San Antonio.
