Mrs. Byrd is celebrating eleven years of being associated with PRA. The first three years were spent working as an Instructional Aide to fifth grade, and that exposure to teaching spurred her on to obtain her own teacher licensing. It was one of the best decisions she has ever made and she enjoys teaching more than she ever dreamed. Never a dull moment!! She taught at PRA and went to college at the same time for the next two years to obtain her license, and has been in the fifth grade ever since. A strong proponent of the Core Knowledge curriculum, Mrs. Byrd is convinced it is a wonderful study with rich history and literature, giving the students a great liberal arts background so important for students' success.
A Denver native (4th generation), Mrs. Byrd was educated in Denver, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School and receiving a Bachelor's Degree in History from The Colorado College, in Colorado Springs. Mrs. Byrd and her husband, Rick, live in Highlands Ranch, have three children: Justin, Garrett and Whitney Byrd and one English Setter called Cooper. Justin is a graduate of Mizzou, is married to Lauren (graduate of Univ. of San Diego), they live here, and have a sweet dog named Rookie!! Garrett is a recent graduate of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs and Whitney is now in college at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA. All three of the kids attended PRA!
Mrs. Byrd enjoys family most of all and along with that, the Colorado outdoors, reading, history especially, chocolate of any kind, friends, playing games, biking, golf (the cart!) and traveling the US.
