This is a special website for Richmond Elementary 1st grade families. Please DO NOT copy or share any of the contents without our permission.
Students usually have homework on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
(If we have a schedule conflict, we may send the homework on a different day.)
1. Write your name in Japanese.
2. Complete the homework page.
For Hiragana Homework (September to March):
- Work on the homework page by following the stroke orders with a pencil first and trace all of the letters with a marker the second time. (This way, your student can practice writing the letters twice!)
For Katakana Homework (March to June):
- Work on the homework page by filling in all of the blank squares and trace all of the letters with a pencil or marker on both sides of the worksheet. (The homework page is 2-sided.)
3. Read all the words on each worksheet to the family member(s), or other adult(s).
(Let your student feel like they are teaching you Japanese!)
4. Get a signature on top of each page from the person who listened your student reading.
(This is the ONLY way we can make sure your student has done the reading portion of the homework!)
5. Turn the homework in the next day.
Please set a time and sit down with your student to make sure your student takes time instead of rushing through it. We know most of you don’t know Japanese. However, spending homework time together will gives you the opportunity to learn Japanese from your student and your interest will bring a positive influence on your student’s learning.
Please do not worry much if your student doesn’t remember the words he/she is reading to you. Remember, the homework is coming home three days a week and your student will keep learning letters and words throughout the year. Please create a safe and joyful environment for your student during the homework time.
If your student forgot to bring the homework or was absent for the day, you can download the homework by clicking the PDF files!
(The in-class worksheets are done at school and they are NOT on this website.)
