Graduation for Seniors, promotion for K-11th Grade Students

   Reception with food immediately following ceremony 

Date: Saturday, May 14, 2016

Time: Students - arrive by 1:15 P.M. to line up for the procession to their seats,  Ceremony begins at 1:30 P.M.

Location: CROSSROADS United Methodist Church

                  4726 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34234



A slideshow presentation of all seniors will be shown at graduation

Choose 8 to 10 pictures of you at various ages (i.e. infant/toddler, youth, activity/sports, work, group, family) One should be your Graduation picture or a fairly recent picture  

           A.S.A.P. scan and email photos or digital pictures to glenna@potterswheelacademy.com 


           Make your own, or order them from a bookstore or online graduation supply source

 INVITE FAMILY & FRIENDS:          You may invite as many friends and relatives as you want to celebrate this event with you



YOU will be presenting the diploma to your student. Your child's diploma will be given to you at the church before graduation begins. When your student's name is read, come forward to present it to them. (see dress code below)

A picture will be taken of your graduate and of you with your "graduate"


PARENTS of  Graduating Seniors and Students in Grades K-11

Email us a few sentences about each of your child/ren telling us something they did this year, how they have progressed or improved in something, an activity they enjoyed,

 something that can be read to fill the silence as they come forward after their name is read

Silence may be golden, but sometimes it can also be deafening

Inform your student/s that when their name is read they are to come up on stage to receive their Promotion Certificate and have their picture taken

 They will remain up front for group pictures: Elementary (1-5), Middle School (6-8), and high school (9-11) before returning to their seats

Let us know if you have a Kindergarten student graduating as we have mortar boards for them to wear and keep.


DRESS CODE - for everyone (including your guests)

Senior Boys - Pants, collared shirt and/or tie, shoes and socks 

Senior Girls - Dress, skirt or pants and blouse, shoes. Modest clothing

Women and Girls - dresses, skirts or pants and blouses, shoes. Modest clothing

Men and Boys casual pants, dress shirts, or polo shirts. Suits may be worn, but not required

NO inappropriate or ultra-revealing clothing, NO low-slung pants with underwear showing, NO Rubber Flip Flops, NO baseball caps worn inside the church sanctuary

(We shouldn't have to state the obvious, but unfortunately we do!)



Friday, May 13, 2015 11:00am - ? (hopefully 12:30) depends on how many families we have helping

Put up a few decorations, table cloths and decorations on tables, napkins, plates, eating utensils, and cups on serving tables

Many hands make quick work...


EVERYONE - please bring food for the reception

Food Suggestions:

Slow Cooker Items, Sandwiches, Meat, Cheese, Fruit, Veggie trays, Salads, Deviled Eggs, Chips and Dips, Nuts, Candy, Desserts

Food may be brought in the day we decorate and placed in the refrigerators or sealed bags until Saturday's reception

The number of people you invite to celebrate with you is unlimited, so call or email Glenna with your estimated number of guests

The church has an oven if you have food that needs to be kept warm

Graduation/End-of-Year Recognition Day

Take food from arriving PWA families to Reception Area and see that non-perishable food gets placed on correct food tables and perishable food gets placed in refrigerators

Help line up K-11 students and Seniors for their processional 

Hand out Programs as guests arrive (even younger students can do this)


Take perishable food from refrigerators and place on serving tables

Take decorations down and clean up
