Mrs. Joann Chambers
I was thrilled to have been appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools on July 10, 2015. I am a North Country native, having grown up in Hopkinton. I earned my B.A. in English and M.S. in Teaching from SUNY Potsdam, and my Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from St, Lawrence University. I came to Potsdam in 1994, after teaching secondary English for seven years in other parts of the state. For the next ten years, I taught 7th grade English at A.A. Kingston Middle School before becoming the principal of Lawrence Avenue Elementary School in 2004. I served in that position for four years and then as the principal of Potsdam High School for the next seven. During this time, my two children, Kate and Mike graduated from Potsdam High School.
I am looking forward to continuing to serve the families of the Potsdam Central School District. We are a strong school district with a proud history of academic excellence. The members of the community have long supported our schools, and this commitment has resulted in exemplary results in the classroom and in our many extra-curricular activities.
In the years ahead, I hope to improve communication with all of our stakeholders, build stronger partnerships with our local colleges and universities; enhance our educational program through the integration of technology; and continue to seek creative ways to personalize learning for every student. I hope to also continue to build on all of the traditions that have made Potsdam Central School District a premier place to educate the leaders of tomorrow.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if there is ever anything I can do to enhance your child’s experience at PCS. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org and I can be reached by phone at 265-2000 ext. 733.
