Young Scholars 2015
Young Scholars 2015 summer program at Clarkson University to share with your students. Our this year’s program description and application information is attached and can also be found on our website at www.clarkson.edu/youngscholars/index.html. The week long program will be held on Clarkson University’s campus from Sunday, July 12 – Saturday, July 18. It is a great opportunity for students to work on a real hands-on project, learn about college life and enhance your teamwork/leadership/communication skills!
Students will interact with faculty/staff from various disciplines to learn more about majors, careers as well as what it’s like to be a college student. This year’s project will be “The Homestead Advantage 2025” which focuses on how modern-day homesteaders make use of renewable energy technologies and the latest technological innovations as well as time-tested techniques. Homesteading is a growing trend in the United States, and this year's Young Scholars Program will develop a conceptual and marketing plan to bring the homesteading message to America's suburbs.
On our website, you or your students can also print off the required application and essay as well as obtain further information on tuition, room and board during the week. If a student lives close to Clarkson’s campus and is not interested in residing on campus for the week, there is a commuting option. As a commuter, students pay $200 less the $875.00 cost of the program.
NOTE: Students who successfully complete the Young Scholars program will receive a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year) towards tuition if they attend The Clarkson School or Clarkson University full time for their undergraduate education. Please note that this program is open to any student even if they are not interested in attending The Clarkson School or Clarkson University.
The Young Scholars Program provides a unique summer experience for students. Consistent with Clarkson’s overall focus on interdisciplinary education, students are given a problem to examine and solve from a variety of perspectives: business, ethics/social values, science, and others. Working individually and in small groups, students conduct research and make a final presentation to campus and community leaders. Students’ families are also encouraged to attend the final presentation. This innovation program sparks intellectual development and requires students to exercise strong communication skills, and cooperative problem solving.
