Upcoming Canton/Potsdam Town Hall Meetings regarding the prospect of merging will take place on the following days:

Tuesday, October 21st, 7:00- Potsdam Middle School Cafeteria
Monday, October 27th, 7:00- Canton High School Auditorium 
(All meetings are open to people from both communities)

Thursday, October 30th, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm- The Advisory Referendum ("Straw Poll") 
Polling sites will be the Canton High School Library and the Potsdam High School Auditorium.  
If both communities approve the merger during this advisory referendum, a binding referendum would be held on December 16, 2014.  Should either community not support the merger in the advisory referendum or in the binding referendum, the merger would not take place.

THE FIRST OF THREE TOWN HALL MEETINGS REGARDING THE PROSPECT OF MERGING CANTON AND POTSDAM SCHOOLS WILL TAKE PLACE ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2014, AT 7:00 PM IN THE POTSDAM MIDDLE SCHOOL CAFETERIA. THE FINDINGS FROM THE RECENTLY COMPLETED COMPREHENSIVE MERGER STUDY WILL BE PRESENTED BY POTSDAM SUPERINTENDENT PATRICK BRADY AND CANTON SUPERINTENDENT WILLIAM GREGORY, FOLLOWED BY A QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD. THE PUBLIC IS INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.

The latest version of the Canton/Potsdam Merger Newsletter is now available online. Click here to read the final summary. The Potsdam Board of Education will meet this evening, July 8th, to vote on whether to proceed with the next step of the merger process which involves holding a non-binding, "straw poll" public vote in both districts. The Canton Board of Education will meet Thursday July 10th for the same purpose.

The third in a Series of Town Hall meetings regarding the prospect of merging Canton and Potsdam schools will take place this evening, Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at 7:00 pm in the Canton High School Auditorium. Information will be shared stemming from the Joint Advisory Committee’s discussion on the financial aspects of a potential merger as well as a preliminary look at transportation and food services.  The meeting will conclude with a question and answer period.  The public is invited to attend.

Community members from both Potsdam and Canton are invited to attend and learn more about the merger study at the Town Hall meetings this week.
  • Monday, March 24th, at 7:00 pm in the Canton HS auditorium
  • Wednesday, March 26th, at 7:00 pm in the Potsdam HS auditorium.
Information stemming from the Joint Advisory Committee’s discussion on possible school configurations and the opportunities and challenges involved in merging athletic programs and extracurricular activities will be shared, followed by a question and answer period.

The Canton and Potsdam Central Schools’ Joint Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Potsdam High School has been postponed because of the impending winter storm.  The meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 19, 2014, from 6:00-9:00 pm in the Potsdam High School Library.

The Town Hall Meeting in Potsdam on Tuesday night drew 30 members of the public where Superintendent Brady presented an outlining the merger process and the reasoning behind it.

There will be a Town Hall Meeting tonight, January 21, at 7:00pm in the high school auditorium at Potsdam Central. Community members from both Potsdam and Canton are invited to attend and learn more about the merger process. The floor will be opened up for questions following a brief overview of the Merger Feasibility Study process. Additionally, a Town Hall Meeting will be held in Canton tomorrow night, January 22, also at 7:00pm.  Don't feel comfortable asking your questions at the  meeting? In other news, there will be two more opportunities for public communication when we host town hall forums in both school auditoriums.  The first will take place at Potsdam High School on 1/21 at 7:00 pm and the second at Canton High School on 1/22 also at 7:00 pm.  Please spread the word as we would like to have as many members of the community participating as possible.

Click here to view the meeting minutes from the second work session of the Canton-Potsdam Joint Advisory Committee which was held Monday December 16, 2013 at Canton Central School. The next work session of the JAC will be held on January 8, 2014 at Potsdam Central Schools and will begin at Lawrence Avenue Elementary School with a tour of the facilities.  In addition to the tours, the focus of the work session will be on curriculum and instruction.
