Middle School Guidance and Counseling

What does a Counselor do?

Mrs. Zender works with students who are experiencing any social, emotional, or academic difficulties.  Counselors work with kids either individually or in small groups.  Some of the issues that are addressed are peer relationships, family issues, anger management, and self-esteem.  When a student meets with a counselor, it is done in a private, confidential setting.  This helps students feel like they have a safe place to talk about what is going on and to create healthy, safe options.

How do I see the Counselor?

Students can see a counselor through:
  • Teacher Referral
  • Parent Referral
  • Self-Referral

About Me:

This is my third year at A.A. Kingston Middle School.  Prior to beginning at Potsdam Central, I worked for the SUNY Canton Upward Bound Program as an Assistant Director/Counselor.   I love working with Middle School students and look forward every morning to going to work and seeing the smiling faces of our students!  Every student is so unique and I look forward to getting to know each of them!

I am a lifelong resident of St. Lawrence County and graduated from Canton Central.  I received my Bachelor's Degree with a major in Sociology and a minor in United States History from SUNY Potsdam.  I attended St. Lawrence University where I received a Master's in Education with a concentration in School Counseling.

My husband and I reside in Hannawa Falls with our cat, Marley.  My hobbies include spending time with my friends and family, scrapbooking, kayaking, hiking, and boating.
