ATHLETICS AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Each year Portsmouth Public Schools has more than 1,400 high school students participating in one of
approximately 25 interscholastic athletic programs sponsored by the district. Athletic participation helps
our students grow, learn, and enjoy themselves while they use and develop their personal, physical, and
intellectual skills. In addition, there are more than 50 special interest clubs offered at the high school level
in areas such as forensics, drama and music.

STEM ACTIVITIES | ROBOTICS
We offer STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – problem-based programs for all students. Our STARBASE Victory, DiscoveryBase, Experimental Design and Biotechnology courses allow students to learn critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Our students and teachers are heavily engaged in after-school VEX and First Robotics and CHROME (Cooperating Hampton
Roads Organization for Minorities in Engineering) clubs.
Our STEM programs are proudly supported by the U.S. Navy, Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, and Tidewater Community College.
