PVDF and PVDF copolymer resins for lithium ion battery.
These are special grades PVDF and PVDF copolymers that are designed as binders for lithium ion battery. They have high molecular weight so you will only need very small amount of binder to make your cathodes and anodes.
  1. PVDF homopolymer (Low MFI and very high molecular weight, very fine powdergrade designed for membrane and lithium ion battery binder, Kynar HSV 900). The HSV 900 has melt viscosity of  47-53 kp. It is a super fine powder to facilitate dissolution in NMP. For more technical information about Arkema PVDF for lithium ion batteries, please visit their website.
  2. 5130 with intrinsic viscosity of ~0.35 l/g for lithium ion battery binder
  3. 6020 with MFI < 2 g/10 min (Mw lower than 5130) for lithium ion battery binder.
  4. P(VDF-HFP) copolymer with very high molecular weight. This is Kynar Flex K3120-50 with melt viscosity of 20-26 k poise at 450 F and 100 sec -1 and HFP content less than 10wt%.

Kynar® and Kynar Flex® PVDF resins have exceptional solubility for battery production processes because they are produced via an emulsion polymerization process, which inherently yields a finer powder particle than a suspension polymerization process. Thus they dissolve more readily in NMP solvent.
