Do work you can be proud of. Every assignment and task in this class builds toward the goal of making you a more competent writer and a more discerning reader. Approach each day's work with a positive attitude and determination to succeed. I am here to assist you in achieving these goals.
"The purpose education is not primarily to get more stuff; it's to learn to solve the problems of the world." Dr. John Perkins
Work hard to achieve your goals, and you will find other working hard to help you achieve them
5 subject note book or binder
loose leaf paper
black or blue ink pens
3x5 note cards
I wish you would all be motivated by the love of learning and that we did not require grades to indicate your performance in the class. However, this is reality, not a utopian educational system, so you must be graded accordingly. You will earn points based on your performance on assignments, essays, quizzes, and tests. These points will be totaled and applied to Notre Dame's grading scale for your quarter and semester grades.
Academic honesty requires that the source of all facts and opinions be documented and that all language/ideas taken from other sources must be enclosed in quotation marks. Plagiarism is the failure to do this. In cases where deliberate deception is suspected, the instructor will issue a grade of "0" for the paper in question and may refer the case to the dean. Parents will be notified.
Citizenship Values: These things are valued in this classroom
*Kindness: the ability to treat someone as you would like to be treated.
*Honesty: the desire to be honorable.
*Intellectual curiosity: an enthusiasm for learning, a willingness to suspend boredom with the hope of being interested in a new idea, a true desire for knowledge.
Class attendance is extremely important. Students will be held responsible to all class lectures, instruction, and discussions. A student has two school days to make up missed work for every day that student was absent. However, if a student's absence is marked as "unexcused," the student is not allowed to make up missed work and receives a "ZERO" for work collected during the unexcused absence. All assignments will go into the grade book as a zero until the work is made up.
