McKinley Publishing Center

The McKinley Publishing Center is back! Beginning in February, every student in 1st through 5th grade can sign up to create a book. Each student who signs up will receive a book packet with all the information and materials needed to create a one-of-a kind keepsake. You can sign up online or simply return the signup form to the office. Look for more information in the Tuesday folder. Contact Lori Brandenburg at with any questions.

Sock Hop

Mark March 24th on your calendar for the McKinley Under the Sea Sock Hop! This fun family event runs from 6 to 8:30 on Friday night and will feature a DJ, photo booth, face painting, tattoos, crafts, cookies, glow necklaces, the Kohl’s Color Wheel for arts & craft, and more. Secret Holiday Workshop

Get ready for the holidays with gifts for the whole family! All items sold by our over 30 creative vendors will be $10 or less. Students can shop with a parent or shop secretly with help to manage their money with a 5th grade Girl Scout. Kids can even wrap their own gifts and bring everything home ready for a big surprise! Bring your neighbors, family, and frieds... everyone is welcome to shop! Also stop by the bake sale hosted by Brownie and Junior Girl Scout troops at McKinley. Proceeds from the bake sale will raise money for families in need.

The Secret Holiday Workshop will be held on December 8, from 3:20 - 6:30 in the large gym. Enter the building through the 90th Street doors. Hope to see you there!

Election Day Bake Sale ~ November 8th, 2016!

Calling all bakers - We are looking for donations of small packaged goodies to sell at the bake sale. The baked goods can be store bought or hand made. The bake sale will be from 7am - 8pm. It’s time to gather the Box Tops you have been collecting all summer long! The Fall Box Tops Classroom Competition will start October 31st and go until November 18th.

Send your neatly clipped Box Tops to your child’s teacher. The classroom that collects the most will win an ice cream party!

The Class Coin Competition is back!! Starting Wednesday, October 12th we are collecting loose change for the All for Books program. The competition runs until Wednesday, Oct. 26th. The classroom raising the most money will win popcorn and a movie!

Money raised through All for Books will be used to buy books for McKinley’s school and classroom libraries. Scholastic donates a book for every dollar we raise to 2 non-profit organizations dedicated to helping kids in need - Kids in Distressed Situations & Kids in Need Foundation.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid #11 ”Double Down” is available to pre-order for $8.99 starting this week. This is a specially priced paperback edition (compare to hardcover price of $13.99 elsewhere). Order forms are located in the office. Books will be delivered to your child’s classroom the first week of November.

Chess Club

This year, McKinley Elementary welcomes a new volunteer instructor, Mr. Mark Seghers. Mr. Seghers is a new Tosa resident who had previously led a large scholastic chess community for over 10 years in Muskego.

The McKinley Chess Club will start this year with two sessions ($50 for both):

1. Beginners’ session ($25) starts on Tue Oct 11th and continues for 4 weeks, 3:30-4:45.

2. Intermediate and Advanced Club ($40) begins on Jan 3 and continues weekly same day/time through March. If in doubt, we recommend students take the beginner class as a refresher! We will also be participating in a few Milwaukee-area scholastic tournaments in 2017 to compete against other schools (optional).

Bakers Needed for Family Fun Night Cakewalk!

We are in need of bakers for the Family Fun Night Cakewalk! Small cakes, packages of 6 cupcakes or brownies, and other treats (equivalent in size to a small cake) are welcome! Please package baked goods in disposable containers. Baked goods should be delivered to school on Friday, February 19. If delivering before or during the school day, please place items on the tables set up near the school office. If delivering after school, please bring items to the small gym stage area. Treats will be used in the McKinley Messengers Cakewalk at Family Fun Night. The value of tickets redeemed at the Cakewalk will be donated to the Salvation Army Emergency Lodge.

New this year - a Best in Show category! The McKinley Messengers will be picking a Best in Show cake! If you would like to participate, please label your disposable container with the baker/decorator's name!

Family Fun Night

Family Fun Night is Friday, February 19th, from 5:30-8:30pm. Look for the flyer in your child's Tuesday folder or print one here:

Meals must be pre-ordered, but game tickets can be pre-ordered or purchased the night of the event.
