17th Annual PLU Festival for High School Orchestras, October 19, 2013

Welcome, from Jeffrey Bell-Hanson,
Conductor of the Pacific Lutheran University Symphony Orchestra

The PLU Orchestra Invitational offers high school orchestras and chamber orchestras the opportunity to play in the world class Lagerquist Concert Hall at Pacific Lutheran University and to receive feedback from some of the most distinguished musicians in the Puget Sound.

Our guest clinician this year will be Jerry Kracht, Professor and Conductor Emeritus of the Pacific Lutheran University Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Kracht led the PLU Orchestras for 33 years. During his long tenure on the podium at PLU, he established himself as a sought-after performer, clinician and adjudicator throughout the region. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in orchestra conducting from the University of Iowa, where he studied with James Dixon. (On October 15, 2013, Dr. Kracht will guest conduct the PLUSO, leading them in two world premieres, a work by the late William Doppmann, and a work of his own.
