I am the Dean of Humanities at Pacific Lutheran University, and help to coordinate the teaching and work of our English, Languages & Literatures, Philosophy, and Religion Departments as well as the Rainier Writer's Workshop and the Scandinavian Cultural Center. We help our students to articulate and analyze the diversity and the mystery of the human experience using academic tools.

My own teaching is in the areas of Christian ethics, comparative ethics, and environmental ethics. In addition to the Department of Religion, I also teach in the International Honors and Environmental Studies programs at PLU. Every course emphasizes the importance of thinking critically about contemporary moral issues.

My research focuses on the interconnections between religious faith and social justice, human ethics and environmental concerns, scientific data and moral commitments.

For more information than you could possibly want about my teaching and research, you can access my CV.
