Welcome Back

posted Jan 7, 2019, 1:55 PM by Melissa Violich

I hope that everyone had a wonderful and restful break.  I first wanted to say thank you for all of the thoughtful and generous gifts! I feel so loved! I am looking forward to a great start to 2019!

We have a busy January ending with Outdoor Ed on the 28th-30th.  Due to some last minute changes, I am hoping to get a few parents to help with driving to/from.  We will need a couple of extra cars for the Monday arrival and Wednesday return.  Please let me know ASAP if you are available to help out.

We are starting our nonfiction unit in reading and writing.  Within the next couple of weeks, your student will choose a topic to research (any historical event or period).  Please talk to them about choosing a topic that will have plenty of information and is also fun/interesting to them!
In Math, we will be completing Module 3 this week and will then review for our End of Module Assessment next week.  We will do an extra day of review since it has been a couple of weeks with no math!

We also have a fun January with a flag salute, welcoming the Amador drama class for some improv, and a visit from our sister school from China!  More info to come as these events get closer.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I am looking forward to a fantastic 2019!

MATH TEST TOMORROW! We have reviewed the study guide and have also done some extra work with fractions.  Please have your student review the concepts so that they are ready for the Mid Module 3 Assessment tomorrow.

Wednesday Field Trip to LLNL- We will be leaving school at 8:30a for the lab.  This is normally a late start day but due to our field trip, we are a regular day schedule.  Please have your student at school by 8:15a.

Raiders Play60- We will be having fun with obstacles and Gatorade on December 18th at 10am with the Raiders Organization.  Please have your student wear tennis shoes that day!

Winter Banquet- Your student should have come home with a flyer giving all of the details.  If not, I have attached one HERE. We also still need a few donations to make it happen.  Please use this link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F4EABAC2AA5F85-winter
It should be a fun celebration before our winter break!

We have started our Gratitude Journals as of last week and it warms my heart to see these kids feel grateful for the people in their lives.  We are doing 100 days of Gratitude that has a different topic each day.  Ask your student about our first few topics!

Thankful News!

We made it!  I hope that everyone enjoys their break this Thanksgiving.  We will be returning to school on November 26th.  I wanted to give a few reminders before our time off.

Pigeon Point Funds- We are almost there!! We have a few more needed donations needed but overall our class is almost paid in full.  If you have not made your second payment yet (or the first), please send it in ASAP.  I would like to be paid in full by our December break.  Chaperones have been notified.  We may need a couple of people to help driving but we are still crunching numbers to see.  I will let you know shortly if we are in need.

Lawrence Livermore National Lab- We have our field trip to the LLNL on December 12th.  We will need chaperones and drivers for this half-day science field trip.  If you are available and cleared, please let me know.  We will leave school at 8:30a and return around 11:45a.

Conferences-  Thank you to everyone who attended their conference! It was great to meet with everyone and set goals for your child this next trimester.  I will be meeting with each student when we return from break.  We will set our own goals for the 2nd trimester. I am looking forward to watching your students grow over the next few months.

Finally, I am so thankful for such a great parent community.  From art to supply donations to just dropping in to help; I am so grateful!  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Have a wonderful break and I will see everyone on the 26th!

Tomorrow is DARE Culmination! We will be starting at 4pm (ending around 5-5:15p) at the AMADOR THEATER.  Friends and Families are welcome!! Please have your student there 15 minutes early to get up on stage and set.  We will be receiving our DARE shirts tomorrow morning.  Officer Batt is asking that students wear their shirts to the culmination with jeans or dark pants.  Our essay winner, Hope Fisher, will be reading her DARE essay along with the other class winners.  Mrs. Borris will also lead students in their DARE songs!  We are excited to show off what we have learned during our time with Officer Batt.  Please let me know if you have any questions and we will see you at 4p.
