Meet Mr. Burns

Scotte Burns
I am a twenty-four year veteran of Colorado charter schools, having worked to help pass the original Colorado Charter School Act in 1994, and am the father of a founding family of Jefferson Academy Charter School in Broomfield. I have worked as a special education assistant, enrichment tutor, and classroom teacher in Earth science and English/Language Arts. My BA in English (summa cum laude) is from Regis University and I carry an MFA in Creative Writing from National University, La Jolla. My work has been published in Westword, The Rocky Mountain News, OnStage Magazine, The GNU and Lahian Literary magazines, Nth Degree SciFi Fantasy, and other traditional and online publications.

Married 34 years and with two grown children who live in Colorado, I enjoyed a parallel career in music for thirty years before shuttering our last entertainment business in 2012 to pursue our current endeavor, Lovin America ( My wife, Toni, and I are avid bikers and have taken our Harley's coast to coast and from top to bottom of this amazing country.

I will be retiring from teaching at the end of the 2017 school year and pursuing our work with Lovin America full-time from the American road and from our home in Deadwood, South Dakota.
