Welcome to Mrs. Valentine's Kindergarten Website! We are off to a great start this school year. Kindergarten is a very busy place! Your child's first year in kindergarten will be filled with new discoveries. Each child will begin to learn early reading strategies, many new math skills, and all about the life cycles of various living things. Please be sure to check back often for new and exciting things that are going on in our classroom. Feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you ever have any questions or concerns.
Your child will frequently bring home small readers that they have read in school. I highly recommend saving these books and having your child choose 2 or 3 books to practice reading each day. The more your child practices reading and is exposed to stories being read to them, the better reader he/she will be. Your kindergartner is responsible for reading every night for 15-20 minutes. Occasionally, homework or projects are assigned. If there is no due date on the homework sheet, it is due the next day.
Developing and maintaining appropriate classroom behaviors is an essential part of kindergarten. I consistently encourage good behavior and feel that positive reinforcement is the best motivator. However, sometimes children may stray from following the rules. To assist them, as well as keep the harmony in the classroom, we will utilize the following classroom management plan.
The classroom rules are:
1. Listen while others talk.
2. Follow directions.
3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
4. Work quietly and do not disturb others.
5. Show respect for school and personal property.
6. Work and play in a safe manner.
