GRW Earns Green Ribbon!

Congratulations G.R. Whitfield!  

G. R. Whitfield has earned Green Ribbon Recognition for our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) implementation efforts.  GRW's community is being recognized for our efforts to integrate the Safe Schools Plans, character education efforts and strategies, and discipline efforts in order to make schools caring and safe communities for learning.
In honor of this achievement,  2 representatives from GRW all attend the 2016 Recognition Program: PBIS Journey for School Change. on November 7, 2016 in Greensboro.

Mission Statement

Through collaboration with parents, students, teachers, and the global community, G.R. Whitfield School will provide students with authentic learning opportunities which promote critical thinking, problem solving, and clear communication skills necessary for lifelong success.


G. R. Whitfield School, founded by George Roscoe Whitfield, was formerly Pitt County Training School. It was the only high school for black students in Pitt County. Dormitories were built in 1923. In the 1960's the school was desegregated. In 1967, the school was renamed G.R.Whitfield School.

About Us

Today G.R. Whitfield is a PreK-8 school in Grimesland, NC. Our campus includes 3 main buildings, the newest addition was completed in 2001.

Our middle school offers clubs and athletics to our students including football, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball and baseball.
