Through collaboration with parents, students, teachers, and the global community, G.R. Whitfield School will provide students with authentic learning opportunities which promote critical thinking, problem solving, and clear communication skills necessary for lifelong success.
G. R. Whitfield School, founded by George Roscoe Whitfield, was formerly Pitt County Training School. It was the only high school for black students in Pitt County. Dormitories were built in 1923. In the 1960's the school was desegregated. In 1967, the school was renamed G.R.Whitfield School.
Today G.R. Whitfield is a PreK-8 school in Grimesland, NC. Our campus includes 3 main buildings, the newest addition was completed in 2001.
We have special classes ranging from the TMD class to pullout AIG groups.
Our middle school offers clubs and athletics to our students including football, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball and baseball.
