This month we are completing the  relocation of our HS offices for student safety. As you may know from previous articles, we are moving the HS  entrance from the south end of the building to our main entrance in the front of the building. Next year, all visitors will be required to check in at the main entrance of the building. This will prevent anyone from walking up and down our hallways during school hours.
We are excited about the change while the cost will be minimal as most of the construction was done by our in-house  maintenance and operations staff members, Mr. Kyle and Mr. Nold.  The cost for office relocation should fall below $45,000  for all materials and construction items. We now have another layer of safety for our staff and students. You are welcome to come and see the improvements any time.

We have many celebrations this quarter! Our students at the Learning Center set a goal to read 20,000 words in a week. They worked really hard throughout the week and not only did they meet their goal, they almost tripled it (almost 55,000 words)!!! As part of the reward, Mr. Dilley had about 12 pies smashed in his face! This was the culmination of a lot of hard work put in by both students and teachers at the Learning Center. I am proud of everyone's hard work and dedication.

The Ranch School students have been preparing for  the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing or End of Course (EOC) testing. Each Friday, PHRS students work to review the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in their content areas utilizing US Test Prep and on-line MAP prep.
The journalism class has continued throughout the school year developing monthly "Pirate's Press" newsletters for the Ranch School with character building and positive spotlight articles as well as holiday history and current events.
PHRS  students were rewarded for their positive behaviors based upon positive behavior points, and visited the Titanic Museum and Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum in March.  PHRS teachers and staff have been given the opportunity to attend multiple professional development trainings this Spring, and have begun to implement projects-based learning, differentiated instruction, technology, and many other effective teaching practices into their classrooms and curriculum.

It is a big month here at PHES as we begin fourth quarter, prepare to participate in the MAP test, and celebrate the hard work of our students and teachers during 3rd quarter!  Students continue to blaze a trail to the office to collect their reading rewards for passing AR book quizzes.

From April 9-16 our fourth graders will be MAP testing, followed by third graders from April 16-20.  Our students and teachers have worked so hard all year long and we look forward to showing what we know each spring on the MAP test.  Thank you for your support with ensuring your child is here each day during this time and that they get a good night’s sleep so they can be ready to do their best.

Finally, keep an eye out for summer school forms...  it's almost that time!

PHMS was a part of "Pennies for Patients", a fund raiser for leukemia/lymphoma research and patients care,  when we returned from Spring Break. This is a coin drive and the initial goal was set at $250, that was shattered on the first day, at the end of the week PHMS students raised over $1,200.  The leadership class and staff were blown away by our students efforts. Testing season is upon us and PHMS students are doing their best to prepare for all  their upcoming tests. Testing will take place from April 23rd through May 9th. More information will come home with your students in the following weeks.

Donuts with Dunning will take place on Friday, April 13th at 7:00AM .

If you ever have any concerns please feel free to contact the MS Office.
