Elementary School Music

All students in grades pre-kindergarten through fifth, including students in self-contained and wing special education classes, receive five periods of music instruction every two weeks. Classes are from 20 to 30 minutes in length, depending on the grade level.

The goals of this program are to insure that each student completing the program can perceive the elements of music, perform music, organize musical sounds, read music, and demonstrate an affective response to music.  These goals are achieved through singing, listening, moving to music, playing rhythm and melodic instruments, creating, writing and reading music.
Fifth and sixth (when housed at the elementary school) grade students may elect to audition for the school chorus  Participating students are encourage to fully develop their singing voices through weekly rehearsals, and to perform annual school programs.
