Welcome to the Instrumental Music Department of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS). Located just east of Washington, DC, Prince George's County Public Schools is one of the top 25 largest school districts in the nation, serving over 127,000 students in almost 200 schools.
The Instrumental Music Instructional Program is committed to ensuring that all students have an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills needed for success playing as a soloist and in large ensembles. The Instrumental Music Program is a sequential and continual program of study offered in every school in Prince George's County beginning in fourth grade.
The Enrichment Programs of the Instrumental Music Department are extensions of the instrumental music curriculum that is delivered after the regular school day. The many opportunities include Middle and High School Honor Bands and Orchestras, a Summer Instrumental Music Experience for rising 5th - 7th graders, the Marching Band Showcase, the Jazz Showcase, and Elementary, Middle, and High School Solo and Ensemble Festival Assessments. These activities are open to Prince George's students who are enrolled in an instrumental music class in school. While the Honor Bands and Orchestras are open to students who pass the required audition and represent the highest achieving instrumental music students, the Summer Instrumental Music Experience and Solo and Ensemble Festivals are open to all instrumental music students.
This site will be used to register students for the auditions and the summer program. If you are interested in the Solo and Ensemble Festivals, please check with the instrumental music teacher in your school. Registrations for those events must be done by your child's instrumental music teacher.
