All About Me

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to ESOL!! My name is Michelle Olivares and I will be teaching your child this year. I am originally from New Jersey and began working with children 18 years ago. Then I moved to Maryland and began teaching elementary students in Prince George's County Public Schools. This is my 9th year as a middle school English Speaker of Other Languages (ESOL) teacher so I am excited at this teaching opportunity.

The reason I have decided to pursue a career as an ESOL teacher is because I understand how difficult it is to learn a new language and assimilate in a new country. My ancestors immigrated to this country from Europe so I have heard their stories about discrimination and assimilation. That is why I strive to be your child's advocate and teacher as your child learns to communicate effectively in English.

I am looking forward to a terrific year and believe your child will have a fantastic time in my class because we will be incorporating technology and working collaboratively in class so that your child can reach their full potential and become an independent and confident young adult.

Since I believe communication is the key to a great parent-teacher relationship, I encourage you to contact me should you have any questions or concerns. You can send me a note, email me at michelle.olivares@pgcps.org or call the school at 301-749-4270. As for me I will contact you by phone, send a note home, or email you (if an email address is provided) should I have any academic or behavioral concerns because I believe a strong parent-teacher relationship will help them your child reach their full potential.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Michelle Olivares
