An Introduction to CCSS

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) describe what students are expected to learn from Kindergarten through Grade Twelve in the areas of Mathematics and English/ Language Arts.  CCSS was developed to prepare students for success in colleges and careers, and to include content that is relevant to the real world in order for students to compete in a global economy.

In June 2010, Maryland became one of the first states in the nation to adopt CCSS.  Currently, 48 states have adopted CCSS, and the transition to CCSS has begun with the anticipation of full implementation for the 2014-2015 school year.

The resources at this site are designed to help students understand expectations and be prepared for shifts in instructional demand that will occur with the move to next-generation PARCC assessments.
