SUMMIT Scholar Program

January 5, 2017

Bowie High's SUMMIT Scholar Program is our signature college-preparatory program of study. Students apply in eighth grade for one of 60 spots. We consider seventh and eighth grade mark  in math, RELA, science, and social studies (60% of application weight) and an entrance exam (40% of application weight) in our evaluation of applicants.

Since the start of the program in 2002, we used our own entrance exam.  This year, we are joining other specialty PGCPS programs in using the PSAT 8/9 as our entrance exam. This decision caused some confusion, so we have decided to offer one make-up opportunity. Since we changed our testing requirement so late in the game, we thought it only fair to provide another opportunity to applicants who may have been unable to register for the PSAT 8/9.

A few private school students are coming to Bowie High's main building on Tuesday, January 10 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. for this SUMMIT Scholar Program make-up entrance exam.

Please share this information with any interested parties; we are happy to host anyone who may want to test. We ask that applicants email us at by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, January 9 so that we may prepare enough exams for our student applicants.

Bowie High’s SUMMIT Scholar Program announces its 2016-2017 application season for the Class of 2021.

SUMMIT is a selective, intensive, rigorous, pre-Advanced Placement program

for highly capable, motivated, and achieving Bowie students.

It is Bowie High’s most competitive academic course of study.

Please see attached links and documents for program description.

Our application season for current eighth graders has now begun! The application process consists of two important steps:

1)  Complete your online application due December 12, 2016.

2)Take the PSAT 8/9 entrance exam in early December, 2016. This College Board PSAT will be used to evaluate student applications to all PGCPS specialty and magnet programs (including the Science and Technology magnet program); the PSAT will be administered free of charge to all PGCPS and Holy Trinity Episcopal Day School students during the week of December 5-9. PGCPS middle schools will communicate exam dates and further details to parents and students.

Homeschooled and private school students will take this exam on December 3; please use link below to pay and register. Please contact Ms. Lekeisha Render, Test Development Specialist, at  with any questions or concerns about this exam.
