Recent Announcements

  • Merry Christmas and enjoy the break...

While the University is still open for a few days, the students are largely all off already. I have my final student meeting of the semester this afternoon, then I'll be greeting new students again on January 2.

I hope all of our #Pepperdine students enjoy a wonderful break from the rigors of school.  Whether you're traveling to the mountains, beach, cities, or just going "home", I wish you safe travels and look forward to seeing you back here in Malibu in the near future.

I'm sad that I missed last week's #Diwali festival here at #Graziadio.  Looks like a beautiful evening for all the beautiful people in Malibu!

  • Welcome to Session B

I hope you’re all enjoying your time here in Malibu, and strengthening your leadership and communication skills as you progress through our graduate programs.

A few quick updates for Session B...

Any Hockey Fans want to meet Luc Robitaille?

Thanks to the hard work of Phil Thompson, we’ve secured NHL Hall of Famer, Luc Robitaille and the Stanley Cup Champion LA Kings for a Dean’s Executive Leadership Series (DELS) event at the Staples Center on Feb 26.  The evening will include a chance to meet Mr. Robitaille, hear him discuss the business of professional sport, and then take in a game between the Kings and Ottawa Senators.  The webpage is still being developed, but you’ll be able to register here  (http://bschool.pepperdine.edu/dels/) soon.

DELS in NorCal, and Digital Innovation Conference next week

Speaking of DELS, next week we have the first DELS of the season up at Symantec in the Silicon Valley.  This event was coordinated by FTMBA alumnus Bryan Zirkle, and we have four or five FT MBA grads working at the HQ in Mountain View. If you’re able to join us, it will be a great evening discussing the recent Retail hacks at Home Depot, Target, and JP Morgan, as well as the growing trend of large tech companies splitting into multiple units with separate stock listings.  You can register here... http://bschool.pepperdine.edu/alumni/events/?trumbaEmbed=view%3Devent%26eventid%3D111526665  And please don’t let travel costs deter you from this great event.  If you need help with travel costs, please let me know and I’ll see if I can help with airfare costs (but if you choose to stay overnight, you’re on your own!) :)

If you are unable to attend DELS next week, consider attending the Digital Innovation and Information Systems Conference here in Malibu  https://bschool.pepperdine.edu/events/digital-innovation/schedule.htm.  This will be a great chance to meet business leaders from Sony, Toyota, Google, SpaceX and others.

New time/hours for the Writing Center and Language Seminar:

  • It's Exam week
It's hard to believe that it's already exam week in our Full-time Programs.  Good luck to all of our students with exams this week.  I hope your exams are a true reflection of what you've learned so far this semester and that you're satisfied with your progress to date.

I also hope you all enjoy your long weekend and find some time to relax, unwind, and make time for the people and activities that bring you joy.

    Good luck!

  • Program News & Notes
Hello team… given the full schedules we’ve got this semester, and the need to keep information flowing through our community, I’ll be sending out occasional emails to share a few important updates about the school and our programs.  Please feel free to give me feedback if you find these helpful, or if you have content you’d like me to include in upcoming updates.  Four quick updates this week…

    1. MSHR and MSA are coming fall 2015… Last week the University Academic Council (UAC) approved the MS in Human Resources at the Graziadio School.  We’re working closely with the marketing team and OB faculty to determine how best to deliver this degree (e.g., FT or FE programs), but it may be a new program in our portfolio here in Malibu next year with an enrollment cap of 25 (and we’ll lower the enrollment in other MS programs respectively).  I’ll keep you posted as the conversation continues.  Also, due to a variety of concerns, the Provost has strongly encouraged the faculty to reconsider and re-launch the MS in Accounting.  As of today, we are planning to launch the MS in Accounting next fall in conjunction with Seaver College.  That program will have a target of 15 new students, with 2-4 of them coming from Seaver College.

    2.  AACSB will be here Sunday!
Our Continuous Improvement Review team will be here Sun-Tue of next week to meet with faculty, staff, and students and assess our continued efforts at achieving our mission.  Many of their activities will be here in Malibu, so be sure to welcome our special guests.

    3.  SalesForce CRM is going live Monday! Our CRM Team (Juan Mena, Alisa Lopez, Jane Tada) have been working hard all semester to prepare for the migration from Hobson’s to SalesForce for our Customer Relationship Management.  The change will occur this weekend and starting Monday, all our recruitment efforts across Graziadio will be on SalesForce.  Special thanks to Alisa and Shimeka for their leadership on this initiative for us.

    4.  Well wishes to Edwin Cahill…as you probably saw on LinkedIn, Edwin is now the Assistant Director for International Programs at the University of Southern Indiana (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/edwin-cahill ).  Congratulations to Edwin, and best wishes from all of us.

Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or news you’d like me to include in future updates.

PS – I brought donuts today since I’ll be attending the Provost’s Faculty Conference all day tomorrow.  Happy Thursday!
