Culinary student in the kitchen
PHS Senior Names Student of the Month at UBCTS

Nate Hessler has been named Student of the Month for January at the Upper Bucks County Technical School.

A senior in the Culinary Arts program, Nate started at UBCTS in the Small Engine technology program as a sophomore. He loved motorcycles and thought it would be the perfect fit for him. Nate did well in the class but realized after a year that, while riding motorcycles would continue to be a hobby, his career path would take him in a different direction.

Just before the end of the school year, Nate visited the Culinary Arts program and was hooked.

Nate’s junior year was the beginning of his formal culinary education. Previously, Nate had some industry experience through his part-time job at Goomba's, a pizza shop in Hilltown. It was through this first job that Nate’s interest in cooking was piqued and where he learned the basics.

Nate currently works at the Rising Sun Inn in Telford. While this position could be a co-op opportunity, Nate has opted to spend as much time in the classroom to gain as much culinary training and skill as possible while he is at UBCTS.

Nate is a straight-A student and has earned First Honors several times at UBCTS. He excels in the classroom as a chef and a leader to his peers. Nate is always among the first culinary students to volunteer for any after school catering opportunities. He is polite, easy-going and extremely responsible.

Nate has been accepted to Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island and will start classes in the fall. He will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts.
