More than 100 talented musicians from school districts throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties will gather at Pennridge High School next month for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 11 Orchestra Festival.

Co-sponsored by the Pennridge and Palisades school districts, the three-day festival (February 8-10) includes 112 students who earned a seat in the orchestra based on a a sight-reading excerpt, a randomly selected section of a solo they prepared and three-octave scales. The students will spend two days rehearsing under the direction of Maestro Gerardo Edelstein, a renowned conductor and music educator. On Thursday, students will re-audition for seating and to determine their eligibility for Region Orchestra.

The festival will conclude with a concert on February 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the Pennridge High School auditorium.

A native of Argentina, Maestro Edelstein has extensive experience conducting symphonic music, opera and choral works in four continents. Audiences, musicians and press alike continuously praise him for his sensitive, charismatic and energetic performances.

Currently, Edelstein serves as director of orchestral studies at the Pennsylvania State University. He is the conductor of Penn State’s Philharmonic and Chamber orchestras as well as the music director of the Music at Penn’s Woods Summer Orchestra Festival. In addition, he is music director of the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets for the concert are $10 each and may be purchased at the door or ordered in advance. Checks should be made payable to Palisades School District and sent to the attention of Marissa Guarriello, Palisades HS, 35 Church Hill Road, Kintnersville, PA 18930.
