Three PHS seniors have been named Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition.

Aidan E. Buehler, Sarah M. Craig, and Joshua M. Rush have made it through a rigorous screening process that began last year when they took the Preliminary SAT along with about 1.6 million other juniors around the United States. Since then, they have maintained their high academic standing and completed additional requirements to be included among 15,000 Finalists.

Scholarship winners are chosen from the Finalist group based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments—without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin or religious preference. A variety of information is available for selectors to evaluate: the Finalist's academic record, information about the school's curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, the high school official's written recommendation, information about the student's activities and leadership, and the Finalist's own essay.

In addition to three Finalists, we had one student who earned Commended status. Although Omar K. Ibrahim is not eligible for a scholarship, it is quite an accomplishment to be among the 50,000 students who included in the Commended group.

Good luck to Aidan, Sarah and Joshua.
