In addition to the core subjects, 8th grade students will have the following encore subjects:

English - Mr. Charles Sines 
Concentrating on the skills of communication and comprehension, students will be studying grammar, speech, writing, vocabulary, and reading through many literature genres through various units such as Shakespeare and the Renaissance, drama and theater, short stories, novels, science fiction, poetry, and Anne Frank and the Holocaust.


Science - Mr. Ed Heiner 
In the science classroom, students will learn and practice scientific fundamentals through the study of Physical Science. Concepts learned include motion, forces, energy, heat, and chemistry. Students will develop basic laboratory skills as well as an understanding of what science is and how the scientific process works.

Learning Support students are included in the regular classroom setting and are given appropriate adaptations under the supervision of the classroom teacher and learning support staff members.

Mathematics - Mrs. Kathleen Hanus & Ms. Deanna Januzzi
The students will experience Algebra or Geometry from a variety of approaches. Traditional lessons will be emphasized along with a more constructivist approach. These programs incorporate integrations of topics as well as an interactive approach to learning. Emphasis is placed on using technology such as the graphing calculator.

Social Studies - Mrs. Ashley Randazzo
Students study the creation of the United States (including colonization & colonial life, American Revolution, and Constitution) to answer, “How and why did our nation become a representative democracy?” The course is interactive with a variety of activities as students evaluate problems and dilemmas, and engage in several historical simulations.

Reading - Mrs. Lisa Gallagher 
The Analysis of Fiction and Non-fiction course instructs students to utilize significant reading strategies. Comprehension, word study, fluency, and critical thinking are emphasized in this course of study. Novel studies, poetry, and affixes are concentrated on to expand student reading, writing, speaking, and listening.


S.T.E.M 2 - Mr. Ryan Ruckle
During the STEM 2 course, the students will continue to apply the engineering design process. Units of study will include Digital Design, Structural Design, Bio-Technology, Coding/Robotics, Energy, Power and Transportation, and Manufacturing. Students will experience using a 3D printer, digital scanner, GoPro camera, laser engraver, CNC router, digital software, hand tools, layout tools, and woodworking machines.
