Pennfield Early College Program Description
The Pennfield Early College Program is a five-year high school program designed to allow a pupil to earn a high school diploma while also earning an associate’s degree, an E/MC (MEMCA) technical certificate1, an industry recognized technical certificate, or 60 transferable credits.
While this opportunity is open to all 10th grade students enrolled at Pennfield High School, it is designed to serve students who are “at risk” of not enrolling in post-secondary education for whatever reason.

Completion of First Year Seminar (FYS 101) through Kellogg Community College
Successful completion of Accuplacer test(s)2
Bi-annual cohort support meetings
5th year (grade 13)
Individual student planning and support through KCC and PHS.
11th year 2-3 High school classes3 and KCC course work (2 per semester)
12th year 1-2 High school class(es)3 and KCC course work (3 per semester)
13th year senior math course and remaining credits at KCC for their program of study
1 - The E/MC (MEMCA) technical certificate may be granted by E/MCs which have had their career and college readiness curricula approved by the Michigan Early/Middle College Association. To be awarded the certificate, students must complete the Michigan Merit Curriculum, must earn a minimum of 15 college credit hours, and complete either 100 hours of community service or 40 hours of career exploration, internship, job shadowing, or clinical experience, or a combination of the two that equals 70+ hours.
2 - Certain Certificate programs do not require the Accuplacer test for admittance.
3 - Based on needed credits/classes required to graduate for PHS.

If you are new to Early College enrollment you will need to apply. You are PLEASE read through these Step by Step directions 1st before applying as a dual enrolled student. It will help you navigate the process. It is the same process that our dual enrolled student do.

Once you have applied, come to our office so we can help you choose your classes.
We need to approve each course you are taking every semester and you need to register for your classes online or in person at KCC!
