During our last Social Studies unit, we teach students about local and global economics in a way that helps develop a better understanding of the choices we make and the impacts they have on one another around the globe. Students learn how to consider multiple perspectives in advertising and marketing. They build their vocabulary skills using real-world business terminology. Additionally, each student learns how to open and manage a business, produce, market and sell an item. At the conclusion of this unit, the students decide, by consensus, where the proceeds from the sales go. Traditionally, the monies have gone to a variety of funds that support humanitarian efforts across the world.
