Info | Mrs. Hendrickson graduated from UNCW with a B.A. in Elementary Education and from Pitt Community College with an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught 1st grade in Duplin County for 10 years. This is Mrs. Hendrickson's third year teaching kindergarten at Penderlea and her goal is to foster her stuents' love of school that will help them become lifelong learners.
Info | Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Treto graduated with her B.A. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Gannon University in 2006 and moved to North Carolina to begin her teaching career. In 2013, she received her Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She enjoys watching her little learners grow and learn throughout the year.
Info | Mrs. Umphress is a Pender County native and she attended Pender County Schools for Kindergarten-12th grade. She is a 2009 Teaching Fellow graduate of East Carolina University and she also has her certificate in ESL. (teaching English to speakers of other languages) Helping children grow into their full potential as a student and as a young citizen of our community is her passion!
Info | Brittanie Coleman earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University in 2004. She has experience serving as a Title 1 reading interventionist, kindergarten and first grade teacher in our school system.
Info | Mrs. Fedoronko graduated from UNCG in 1998. She attended Pender County schools for grades 7-12. After graduation she taught in Randolph County for 4 years. Once she moved home she taught in Duplin County for 11 years. In 2014-2015 school year she entered the PLE family and has taught 1st and 3rd grade.
Info | Mrs. Benson started teaching in 2013 after graduating from East Carolina University with a degree in Elementary Education. In 2016, Mrs. Benson received her Masters Degree from ECU in Reading Education with an Academically and Intellectually Gifted add-on license.
Info | Ms. Fowler has a Bachelor Degree in Education from Walsh University in her home state of Ohio. She has been teaching at Penderlea for the past 16 years. She began teaching 7th grade Language Arts here, then moved to 4th grade, and now she is teaching 2nd grade.
Info | Mrs. Giarrusso received a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from State University of New York at Oswego in 1997. Later, she attended UNC-Wilmington where she earned her Teacher Certification in Elementary Education. Mrs. Giarrusso has taught for over 15 years. Currently she is in her 5th year teaching at Penderlea where she has taught both 1st and 3rd grade.
Info | Mrs. Johnson graduated from UNCW with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She started her teaching career in third grade at Penderlea in 1990 and is continuing on strong in her 29th year with the third graders she loves. Mrs. Johnson earned her National Board Certification in 2010. Mrs. Johnson is proud to be a part of such a fine community of dedicated professionals!
Info | Ms. Regan has a BS in Journalism from Ohio University, and an MA in Journalism from UNC-CH. She earned her M. Ed from DePaul University in Chicago and began teaching in Chicago Public Schools. In 2006, she started teaching in Pender County and loves her Penderlea students!
Info | Mrs. Rupnik started teaching at Penderlea in 2009 as an AIG coach. She transitioned into the regular education classroom the following year. Mrs. Rupnik has taught numerous grades and subjects at Penderlea. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from UNCW in 2007 and is also certified in Middle Grades Language Arts.
Info | Mrs. Anderson is a graduate of Penderlea Elementary and of Pender High School. She continued her education at UNCW as a Teaching Fellow. She graduated in 2011 with a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. She taught 5 years in Special Education at the high school and middle school level until deciding to come to Penderlea and teach 5th grade.

Info | Mrs. Carone has taught elementary school for the past 22 years. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, and her teaching degree from UNC-W. She has a Master's Degree in Elementary Reading Education, is National Board Certified, and AIG certified. She is a native of Wallace.
Info | Mrs. Moore graduated from UNCW in 2007 and began teaching at Penderlea in July of 2007. Mrs. Moore has taught a variety of grades including first, second, fourth, and fifth. In 2017, Mrs. Moore received her Masters Degree in Gifted Education from UNC-Charlotte. Mrs. Moore enjoys spending time with her family and finds joy in watching children grow as learners.

Info | Ms. Gurganus has been teaching at Penderlea for a total of 14 years. She has taught many different grade levels while at Penderlea, and is currently the 6th grade reading and social studies teacher. Ms. Gurganus has a BA in Psychology and while being a stay at home mom, returned to school to receive her teaching certification through UNCW.

Info | Mrs Swain graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a B.A. in Behavioral Science, and she minored in Elementary Education. Mrs. Swain moved to North Carolina shortly after graduating. Mrs. Swain is currently a 7th grade ELA and social studies teacher at Penderlea.

Info | Mrs. Turpin graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and with a Masters Degree in Public Administration. She began teaching in Richmond County, NC in 2000 and Pender County in 2011. She enjoys spending time with her two girls and loves helping students reach their highest potential in becoming prepared for high school and beyond.

Info | Mrs. White graduated from UNCW in 2015 with a B.A. in Recreation Therapy. She started teaching for Pender County Schools in 2016 through the NC lateral entry program. Mrs. White is currently a 7th grade math and science teacher and loves to watch her students grow as learners.
Info | Ms Milam has been teaching Special Education since 2001, when she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She is a native of Wilmington, NC and moved to Burgaw in 2005. She has a daughter and a son and loved spending time with family. She enjoys coming to work and collaborating with teachers to help all students reach their potential!
Info | Mr. Lloyd has been the art teacher at Penderlea since 1998. He graduated from Messiah College in Pennsylvania in 1990. In 2004 he graduated from UNCW with a Masters in School Administration. but decided to stay in the classroom at Penderlea and teach the subject he loves, Art!

I have taught in the New Jersey Public School system, Craven County schools and Pender County schools. I am currently teaching CTE K-8 @ Penderlea Elementary. I love educating and empowering students with 21st Century skills to succeed.
Info |Mrs. Burdette started at Penderlea School right out of graduate school in July 1995. She has a B.S. in Physical Education (1992) and a M.A. in Counseling (1995) from West Virginia University. Although Mrs. Burdette is from WV she loves her Penderlea community!

Info | Mrs. Mintz graduated from UNCW in 1996 and began teaching at Penderlea School. She has a BA in Elementary Education and Middle Grades Language Arts in grades 6-9. She has taught several different grade levels, but is currently the Reading and Math Title 1 Interventionist. Penderlea School has become a part of her heart and she has an extreme passion to see every child succeed.
