Pender County Schools announces high school principal appointments

Pender County Schools announces the following high school principal appointments for the 2018-19 school year:

Pender High School
Ms. Caroline Godwin, currently principal of Burgaw Middle School, has been named principal of Pender High School. Ms. Godwin brings more than 16 years of experience to the Patriots, having served as an educator for 13 years in North Carolina and an administrator for more than three years in Pender County Schools. Ms. Godwin, who was recently named Pender County’s 2018-19 Principal of the Year, achieved a master’s degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina Pembroke.

“It is with great pride and dedication that I join the Patriot family,” Ms. Godwin said. “I pledge to remain committed to increased academic excellence and ensuring our students are best prepared and aligned for college and career success.”



Topsail High School
Mr. Chris Madden, currently serving as principal of Pender High School, will assume the role as principal of Topsail High School. Mr. Madden is a familiar face to Topsail High, having served as an assistant principal at THS several years ago. Mr. Madden brings approximately 15 years of experience to the position, much of which has been with Pender County Schools. He is currently working towards a doctorate in education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

"I am excited for the opportunity to serve as principal of Topsail High School and build upon its academic success,” Mr. Madden said. “I am very fortunate to have had the experience of serving as principal at schools across the district, including at Pender High School for the past three years. Working with the students, staff, and community of Pender High School has been an invaluable experience that I will always treasure. I look forward to building these relationships with the Topsail community."


Heide Trask High School
Mr. Michael Taylor will be assuming the role as principal at Heide Trask High School. Mr. Taylor is currently an executive director with Johnston County Schools. He has worked in education since 1995, serving as a traffic/security operative, teacher, assistant principal, principal, director and executive director. Prior to his career in education, Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Marine for six years. He achieved his education specialist degree from North Carolina State University.

“I greatly appreciate the PCS Board and Dr. Hill’s invitation to join the PCS family,” Mr. Taylor said. “I have the utmost gratitude for the privilege before me to serve as Heide Trask High principal. I have an undying passion for serving our young people and I am deeply committed to a brighter future for the greater good. I have led a life of service and I look forward to continuing that while collaborating with all stakeholders as we embark on the 2018-2019 school year to ensure our school reaches the greatest heights possible.”
