March 20-24 || Quarter ending soon!
Our school is participating in a parent survey.  Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey which will give us valuable feedback.  It can be found on the here: Advanced Ed Survey.

Week at a Glance
In science we are moving into our investigation of light waves and the eye.  Our class will be watching a cow eye dissection at the end of the week.  On Wednesday students will take a quiz on sound waves and the ear.  There is a weekly homework assignment this week due on Friday.

March 13-17 || March Madness!

Spring Picture day is TOMORROW March 14!  Many students continue to miss work and not get it completed or made up.  The end of the 9 weeks is March 28th.  All missing work needs to be completed by March 23rd so that grades can be entered in time for report cards.  Please have your child check Powerschool with you so you can see what they need to get done.  Additionally, students who have not made up test/quizzes after one week will be issued a "not following directions" fine.  

Week at a Glance
In science we continue to explore waves.  This week we will focus on sound waves.  We will take a quiz this Wednesday on wave vocabulary.  Please use the quizlet linked to this week's homework to study. There is a weekly homework assignment this week due on Friday.

In science we finish up earth in the universe this week and will take a test this Wednesday.  There is no weekly homework assignment this week.

As we approach the mid point of the quarter, students must complete missing assignments and continue to keep up with their weekly work in all subjects.  Please monitor power school closely and agendas to determine if there are missing assignments or work that needs to be completed.

Week at a Glance
In science we continue to explore our solar system and learn about the planets and Earth's place in the universe.  There is a homework assignment this week it is due on Friday. 

February 6 -10|| Getting ready for the 6th grade field trip!

Report cards went home last Thursday.  Please sign and return the report card as soon as possible  Our field trip is coming up soon. We are in need of about 5-10 more parents to help us chaperone.  If you are interested please let us now at your earliest convenience. 6th Grade will host the Valentine's Day dance this Friday from 4-6.  Permission slips must be signed and return along with $5 for students to attend the dance.  You do NOT need a date for the dance!

In science we continue Sun, Earth & Moon this week in anticipation for our field trip to the planetarium.  There is a weekly workout for homework this week in science.

January 30-February 3 || Quarter 3 begins!

Thanks to so many of you who have sent in pencils and glue sticks! And a belated thank you for you ice cream donations last Reward Day!  It really helps us make this year both successful and enjoyable for the students.  Report cards go home on Thursday.  Please sign and return the report card.  Our field trip is coming up soon.  We still have a few students who have not turned in their permission slip and money.  Please get this in as soon as possible because it is now overdue.  

Week at a Glance
In science we will finish up our unit on Earth Systems with a test tomorrow.   Vocabulary choice boards are due tomorrow as well.  We begin Sun, Earth & Moon on Wednesday in anticipation for our field trip to the planetarium.  No homework in science the remainder of the week.

January 24-27 || Semester 2 Begins!

Field trip forms are due Friday!  If you are interested in chaperoning our trip on February 14, please follow the link provided here to complete the mandatory Pender County background check.  Thank you in advance for making this a terrific day for our students.

Week at a Glance
In science we will complete our unit on Earth Systems.  This week we will finish with two classroom team challenges.  These challenges asks students to apply their knowledge of the unit's materials to design and create.  We do NOT have a weekly workout homework assignment but students will continue to work on the Vocabulary Assignment during this week.  It will be due on January 27!

January 17th-20th || Quarter 2 ends Friday

Reward Day is planned for January 20th and we would like to host an ice cream party.  If you could send it ice cream, toppings and paper products with your child any time this week, we would be so thankful.  Additionally, please return the field trip permission slips and money as soon as possible!

In science we continue to work on layers of the Earth with our investigation of plate tectonics.  We do NOT have a weekly workout homework assignment but students will be working on a Vocabulary Assignment over the next two weeks.  It will be due on January 27!

December 5- 9 || Working Hard!

Please make sure you and your student spend a few minutes each night signing the agenda.  Fines are plying up and could prevent them from participation in Reward Day next month.  

Week at a Glance
In science student will be working on several laboratory experiments this week to help them understand heat transfer, conduction and insulation.   We will also be making a insulation chamber that shows which materials are the best at preventing heat escaping. We have homework this week reviewing material for next weeks unit test on Tuesday.
